Data access

Getting the data out

There is no public API today. This page used to document one, with example endpoints and a sample key, none of which existed. What does exist is an export on every tool, and that is described below.

Where the API stands

A programmatic interface is planned but not built. Publishing documentation for it before it responds would waste the time of whoever tried to integrate against it, so nothing is documented here yet.

If you need one, say what you would call and how often. That is more useful to us than a general expression of interest, and it decides what gets built first.

What you can take out today

Every tool that produces a table exports it. The export is built from the same computed report the screen renders, so the two cannot disagree.

CSV from every tool

Each tool that produces a table exports it, with the figures, the units, and the date of the record behind each one. The export carries the same numbers as the screen because both are built from the same computed report.

PDF reports

The assessment tools produce a formatted report for circulation, carrying the same figures and the same statements of what could not be determined.

Your own records

Your retirement ledger, your saved reports and your history are yours to export at any time, and are visible only to your own account.

What an export looks like

A real one, from the compliance price outlook. Every column is a figure the tool computed, and the rows it could not compute are listed with the reason rather than left out.

Not projected,Why
Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative,Its published prices move too much day to day for a projection to say anything useful.

Note the second block. A tool that cannot answer says which market and why, in the export as well as on screen, because a gap in a spreadsheet is indistinguishable from a zero.

What sits behind the exports

11,659
projects
7
registries
151
countries
19
compliance markets

All of it public, all of it collected on a schedule rather than on demand, and all of it carrying the date of the record it came from. How each part is built is set out in the methodology.

Tell us what you would call and how often. Specific requests get built; general interest gets queued.

Questions

Can I get a bulk copy of the project database?

The screening tool exports whatever your filters return, so a filtered slice is available now. A full dump is not offered, mostly because the registries publish the underlying records themselves and you would be better served going to the source for that.

Do exports carry the dates?

Yes, and this matters more than it sounds. The sources move on very different clocks, and a compliance price can be months older than a registry record sitting next to it. Every export carries the date of the record behind each figure so the two are never confused.

Is there a rate limit or a quota?

Not on exports. Nothing you run reaches an outside service in the moment you run it, because the data is collected on a schedule and read from our own copy, so there is nothing for a quota to protect.

What will the API cover first, when it exists?

Most likely project lookup and the compliance price board, because those are the two things people ask for and both are already computed the same way for every caller. What gets built after that depends on what people actually say they would call.

No public programmatic interface is offered at this time. Exported figures carry the date of the record behind them and reflect the state of that record at the time of export. Provided for informational purposes, not as investment advice.
